 First-cycle programme (7 semesters) 

These are life-sciences and technical studies whose programme includes basic natural sciences ( Biology, Chemistry, Knowledge about the Environment ) as well as professional knowledge in the field of Plant and Animal Production, Economics and Organization of Farms, Genetics and Plant Breeding, markets of agricultural products and application of IT in Agriculture.
Studies in the field of Agriculture provide a comprehensive education in this field, integrating knowledge from an extensive range that goes far beyond its stereotypical perception. Some of the issues that the learning programme includes are ecological agricultural production, renewable energy, the use of GPS systems, environmental protection.
Graduates of this Faculty obtain broadened knowledge of life sciences mainly in the field of plant production as well as technological and technical knowledge. They learn the methods of economic analysis, management and the principles of organizing economic activity. They have the knowledge in the field of Ecology and Environmental Protection and humanistic knowledge in the field of Sociology, Ethics, Rural History and Agriculture. All these skills combined with the knowledge of research methodology, the use of operating systems and databases support, enables the graduates to work not only in Agriculture, but also in many other branches of Economy and local Government Administration.

The first-cycle programme in the field of Agriculture lasts 7 semesters. The graduates of the first-cycle programme obtain the professional title of an Engineer. The total number of ECTS credits that the student obtains in the first-cycle programme is 210.
The first-cycle programme of the learning programme includes 43 obligatory courses, 10 elective courses, 2 humanities and 2 foreign languages taught during the first four semesters of studies. During the first two semesters students pursue learning in the field of general courses, learning the biological and chemical foundations necessary for specialist learning in future semesters of studies. In the initial period specialization courses include, among others: Microeconomics, Agrometeorology, and Melioration with elements of Metrology, Physiology and Animal Nutrition. Subsequently, specialized courses are implemented in such a way as to enable students to learn the essential skills necessary to run a farm and agricultural activity. These courses include, among others: Animal Husbandry, Agricultural Chemistry, Plant Protection – Phytopathology, Plant Breeding and Seed Production, Agricultural Technology, General and Specific Cultivation, Agricultural Systems, Agricultural Economics, Grassland Management, Agricultural Law, Herbology. Students are required to undergo a vocational practice of 8 weeks, which is implemented in the 6th semester. In order to complete the first-cycle programme in Agriculture, students have to write and defend Engineer’s degree thesis, they can then receive the Degree of Agriculture Engineer.
Employees involved in Agriculture are engaged in scientific research that is closely related to agricultural issues presented in class. In recent years, employees, as authors and co-authors, have disseminated over a dozen books (manuals, monographs, implementation instructions, guides) and many chapters in textbooks and monographs on crop production technologies and raw materials quality, biodiversity of agroecosystems and its protection, bioeconomy and renewable sources energy, anthropogenic changes in the environment. In addition, employees engaged in Agriculture courses can boast of numerous scientific publications in prestigious journals in the field of agricultural sciences (including the European Journal of Agronomy, Agronomy Science, Archives of Agronomy and Soil Science, Journal of Agronomy and Crop Science, Agricultural and Food Science, Agrochimica, Biomass and Bioenergy). Employees assigned to the field of Agriculture conducted classes in English at foreign universities as a part of the ERASMUS programme, the International Intensive Study Programme, scientific internships and at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin for PhD students. The staff also has professional experience in distance learning within, the so-called, e-learning.

Establishing learning outcomes for first-cycle studies (level 6 of the Polish Qualifications Framework) aims to make the graduate acquire basic knowledge and skills enabling to learn, describe and understand phenomena and processes in the field of Botany and Genetics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Plant Physiology and Microbiology, Economics and Mathematical Statistics, Nutrition and Use of Farm Animals, Methods of Plant Protection against Pests, Economics and Law in Agriculture, and then implement it to perform chemical calculations, use basic laboratory techniques, perform qualitative and quantitative analyses, interpret phenomena occurring in the environment, develop economic accounts, design crop rotation and decide about fertilization and protection in various natural and economic conditions of the farm. The outcomes concerning foreign language skills are also included in the description of learning outcomes.
The graduate has ecological, biological and chemical knowledge, knowledge of economics, organization and management of production, and functioning of agricultural infrastructure useful in running farms and animal production.
